The New York Times
Uyanga Tamir is at Cherry Creek High, a public school in Denver.
Uyanga has read multiple accounts of the “waiting game,” described as the dreadful months from January to April in which every senior sits impatiently waiting for the arrival of anticipated college decisions. However, for her the last two months have been relaxing and lovely, though still filled with ample work.
Having completed most of her college applications, her attention now is centered on keeping up with her rigorous school work and finding scholarships that are open to international students, a task that is difficult.
She finds the attempt to balance everything challenging as she is trying to fit in as many school-related activities and outings as possible since it is my last semester in high school. Occasionally, she slips in a movie or two before she starts her homework for the night. And no, fortunately, this is not a case of senioritis (She is still completing most of my homework).
The only new news is her acceptance to the University of Waterloo in Canada. Though she should be jumping with joy, the financial aspect of her acceptance refrains her from doing so.
Waterloo’s application process was different from those of American colleges in that applicants apply specifically to different departments. An applicant can be accepted into the engineering department, for instance, but be rejected by the science department.
She applied to three programs, and has heard from two so far. The faculty of environment welcomed her to the honors environment and business program with a $1,500entrance scholarship. The faculty of science admitted her to its biotechnology/economics program with a $2,000 entrance scholarship. She has yet to hear from the engineering department.
