Finding a College ... Don't be Penny wise and Dollar Foolish

The economy is getting most of the headlines today and rightfully so as it is the worst U.S. economy anyone under 95 years old has witnessed. The trend whether by necessity or conscience is to be more frugal in our consumption of goods and services. Yet like everything in life there is no clear on/off, yes/no, never/always rule to follow. Times like this remind me of the old adage, "penny wise, dollar foolish". If there is no money to spend the decision is simple but when you are planning on making an investment sometimes being too frugal with the pennies can cause you to lose a lot of dollars.

At College Campus Trips we bring high school students on tours of college campuses. The cost of these tours are proportionate to the location of the schools visited, local state universities verses Ivy League and other "name" colleges across the nation. In either case the cost of the tours are "pennies" in comparison to the "dollars" parents will pay to the colleges attended. These campus tours help students choose a college that they feel will be best for them. Choosing the wrong college cannot only be heartbreaking but also costly if transfers and additional semesters come into play.

This is only one example of how getting carried away with frugality can cost more in the long run. It is not only a time to be frugal, it is a time to spend smart once the decision to spend has been made.
